Instrumental Music
edited for the 2022-23 school year
|
The instrumental program is taught by Kim Thompson. Any student in grades 5 - 8 interested in playing a band instrument is welcome to participate.
All students attend a weekly small group lesson during the school day. The lesson schedule rotates in order to allow musicians to go to lessons at a different time each week. This helps prevent a student from missing the same class each week when they go to their lesson.
Beginner Band is open to all interested students as young as 4th grade. Students attend one small group lesson per week and are encouraged to practice regularly at home. Students may choose from flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone and percussion. There is limited space in the percussion lesson. 5th graders will be able to sign up in September. 4th graders will be able to sign up later in the year. Please read the School Bell and Music web pages to stay informed.
Concert Band Concert Band is for musicians who have successfully completed Beginner Band. We meet two-three times per week during the band and chorus block. We perform in December and May.
Wind Ensemble We are mostly seventh and eighth graders, and we meet Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 8:00 AM. We perform in December, March and May.
Jazz/PopBand, (formerly known as Jazz Band) is a supplement available to all Wind Ensemble members. Concert Band members are welcomed by invitation. We MAY meet after school on Mondays. We perform in December and in May at school, and at the CVSD Jazz Fest in May.
