5th-8th Grade December Concert Information

        The Upper House concerts are scheduled for Wednesday, 12/18. 
All student musicians will perform during the school day and again in the evening.
Students should wear concert attire for both performances.  

Performance times:

5:30 pm- 5th and 6th grade bands and chorus (5:00 call time) 

7:15 pm- 7th and 8th grade bands and choruses. (6:45 call) 

Please honor all musicians by staying for the entire concert.

Concert Dress 

We strive to reflect the pride we feel when performing. 

We request the following attire: 

Daytime:

Performing Arts t-shirt

 black pants or skirt of appropriate length.

Evening:

 dressy shirt/collared shirt with tie

 pants, dress or skirt of appropriate length

Shorts, t shirts, hats, athletic wear,  jeans, flip flops and clunky boots are not appropriate.

Please contact a music teacher if you need to borrow any clothing in advance.

Attention Beginner Band Families!

Please remember that the instrument pick up night is tonight (Wednesday, 11/13) at 6:30 in the WCS theater.

If you cannot attend and have not yet signed a rental contract:

Please contact Ellis Music Company ASAP and make alternate arrangements. (Lessons start tomorrow.)

If you reserved a rental through my sign up form but have not signed a contract yet:

         You should attend tonight. Upon arrival, you will get a number (deli counter style). Ellis Music representatives will run a quick meeting and review the details of the rental contract with all of you. They will then call you up according to the number you received upon arrival. You will then sign your contract and be assigned an instrument to bring home. 

         Children do not need to attend this evening. If you have to bring them, please be sure they have something quiet and calm to do while you are waiting. 

If you completed your rental contract online through the Ellis Music website: 

     You should have received a receipt from Ellis by now. You can arrive at 6:30 and get your instrument right away. You are welcome to sit through the meeting if you would like, but it is optional for you. 

       Please be sure to purchase the book, Tradition of Excellence Book 1, and any other needed supplies such as reeds for clarinets and saxophones. 

  If you cannot attend tonight, the representatives will leave your instrument with me. I will give it to your child at their lesson. 

If you secured an instrument in another way: 

You do not need to attend tonight. If you need reeds for your clarinet or saxophone, and/or the book, Tradition of Excellence Book 1, you can stop in and purchase these from the table in the back of the theater. 

When do we start? What is our schedule? 

     Lessons are scheduled during the school day on Thursdays and Fridays and will begin tomorrow. Your child will attend one lesson per week, always on the same day, but the assigned time will rotate. The time rotates in order to avoid missing the same part of the other classes each week.  Please check the schedule here.  If you see an error, please let me know via email asap. Beginner Band Instrument Pick Up Night

The Beginner Band instrument pick up night has been rescheduled for WEDNESDAY, 11/13 at 6:30 in the WCS theater. If you cannot attend, please contact Ellis Music. You can sign your rental agreement online and have the instrument delivered to school in time for your student's first lesson.

It's time to order your performing arts tshirt!

5th-8th Grade Performing Arts Shirts 

(Band and Chorus)

    It’s time for 5th-8th grade musicians to order their WCS Performing Arts shirts! All 5th-8th grade performing arts (band and chorus) students will need to wear this shirt on concert days and to field trips and other organized events. 

      We are using the same shirts as we have in the past. Older students should check and be sure they have their shirt and that it will fit them for the remainder of the year as this is the only order we are placing.  

        All students new to the program and older students that need to replace their shirt  should  place an order and send your payment directly to your child’s music teacher.  Shirts need to be ordered and paid for by Friday, October 25, 2019.  The cost is $9 and financial support may be requested.

   

New Performance Opportunity

Another new opportunity for WCS musicians to perform has evolved. Thank you to the PBIS committee for inviting us to play at Smart Cell Collections on Fridays!

Dedicated WCS flautists performed a beautiful duet at the Vermont State Superintendents Association's Celebration of Public Education. Congratulations!

              We have two exciting performances on this day. The details for each performance are different so please read carefully.

School day concert:     We will perform during the school day for our peers and teachers. Due to the June heat, the dress  for the day is DIFFERENT from the evening.     Please be sure to wear something cool, comfortable and neat.  Please avoid clothing with large logos.     ***Remember to bring your instrument and music to school on this special day!

Evening concert: Performance time is  6:00 pm. Please arrive at 5:30  to warm up. dress: Please choose: dress, skirt, dressy pants or capris with matching top dress pants or dress shorts with button down shirt and a tie                   T-shirts, hats, athletic wear, and jeans are not appropriate. This is a special group of 8th graders. They are a well rounded group of excellent musicians as well as active dancers, athletes, actors, writers, and more. Most importantly, they are kind and compassionate people who make our world a better place. Good luck in high school!

7/8 March Concert and Dress Rehearsal Details

7th and 8th Grade March Concert

The March concert is scheduled for Wednesday, March 20 at 7pm.  Call time is 6 pm. Please note that the snow date is Wednesday, March 27. This is a special 7th and 8th grade concert that celebrates a different theme each year. In preparation, students have been empowered to choose their music, rehearse collaboratively, create a narrated story to connect to our music, and make costume and choreography decisions.  

In order to be ready to perform on concert day, we will be in dress rehearsal from 8:15-dismissal on Tuesday, 3/19. Please make this rehearsal time a priority in your schedule.

CVU Band

Mr. Miskavage and the CVU Symphonic Winds met with our 7th and 8th graders this week. We played music together, they played music for us, and we learned a lot about band at CVU. If you have questions about the program, please ask Mrs. Thompson.
