Concerts are Coming!!

Concerts for 5th- 8th grade are scheduled for Wednesday, 12/14. 

Students will perform during the school day and again in the evening. 

school day:

 please wear black bottoms and blue performing arts shirts

If you ordered a new shirt, it will be given to your musician the week  of 12/5.

evening:  

5:30- grades 5 and 6- 5:10 call 

7:15- grades 7 and 8 AND 6th grade Stage Band - 6:50 call 

evening concert dress 

Beginner Band Starts This Week!

Beginner Band Families pick up their instruments on Wednesday, 11/16 at 6:30 pm in the WCS theater. 

Thursday lessons: clarinet, flute, all brass
Friday lessons: all saxes and percussion 

Teachers will help students arrive at their first lesson on time. Hard copies of lesson schedules for the remaining lessons will be distributed to students and teachers.

Time to order your shirt!

5th-8th Grade Performing Arts Shirts

(Band and Chorus)

   It’s time for 5th-8th grade musicians to order their WCS Performing Arts shirts! All 5th-8th grade performing arts (band and chorus) students will need to wear this shirt on concert days and to field trips and other organized events.

     We are using the same shirts as we have in the past. Older students should check and be sure they have their shirt and that it will fit them for the remainder of the year as this is the only order we are placing.  

       All students new to the program and older students that need to replace their shirt  should  place an order and send your payment directly to your child’s music teacher.  Shirts need to be ordered and paid for by Friday, October 28, 2016.  The cost is  $8 and financial support may be requested.

Lessons!

Small group lessons will begin next week for most band students. In lessons, students will learn instrument specific literacy and techniques that are applied in the large group rehearsals. This year we will use google classroom to track our work. The lesson schedule (which states the time of their lesson each week) will be posted in 3 places:      

• the bulletin board in the band hall 
• google classroom
• in public team spaces

PERFORMING ARTS KICK OFF MEETING A SUCCESS!

All 5th-8th grade WCS Performing Arts musicians met on Wednesday.  We met Ms. Schultz, who will be teaching chorus and general  music through December. We also welcomed new friends to the program and introduced all of the opportunities that are available.

Congratulations WCS Stage Band!

The WCS Stage Band represented our school at the CSSU Jazz Fest on Monday, May 16th. It was a great night of jazz and big band music and we packed the theater at CVU.  Bands from Charlotte, Hinesburg, Shelburne, Williston  and CVU performed for each other and all eighth graders from across the district got to experience playing with each other for the first time. Congratulations to all- you made us proud!

No 7:30 rehearsal
8:15-12:30- dress rehearsal
                   Please have your black clothing, instrument in working order, all music and costume
                   pieces for this rehearsal. (Your blue performing arts shirt should already be in your                              bag)

If down time is hard for  you, please bring something quiet to do like a book, cards etc.

Mardi Gras Parade

Thanks to all that participated in the Mardi Gras Parade today! Great job!!!!

District III Music Festival a Success!

Congratulations to these outstanding musicians who earned their place in the district music festival and represented WCS with excellence. Additionally, Lily earned her seat as concertmaster of the orchestra and Eric and Adam earned seats as section leaders! Bravo to all! 

Yearbook photos are coming!

All Performing Arts groups will have yearbook photos taken on Wednesday, January 27 at 2:05. Please wear  your blue t-shirt to school that day.  We want to look uniform and fabulous!
