 Band and Chorus Information and Start Up

5/6- WEDNESDAY, 8/25 11:25-11:50 in the chorus room 

7/8 - THURSDAY, 8/26 8:05-8:30 in the chorus room

4th Grade Beginner Band

Smaller group lessons will rotate times as they did in the past.

TBA- some mornings at 7:30 and some time blocks on Wednesdays

5th and 6th Grade Concert Postponed

Due to weather, the 5th and 6th grade concert is postponed until Friday, June 4.

Band Informance!

 Band PerInformance!


We are excited to announce that band students are going to perform in an outdoor “informance” this year!  An informance is a hybrid of performing and informing in a less formal setting. We will celebrate playing music together again and show our families and friends what we can do and play right now. 

                        5th and 6th graders will inform on 

Thursday, June 3 at 10:15 am for families near the bus loop.  (Rain date, Friday, June 4) This informance will be approximately 15-20 minutes long.  We understand that this time is not convenient for everyone. We are working on a plan to record some for those that cannot attend. 

Students, please bring...

Audience please bring...

  • Musician mask

  • Bell cover

  • Regular mask for before and after the performance

  • Music

  • Needed supplies like reeds etc. 

  • Comfortable clothes, appropriate for the occasion and the weather 

  • Mask

  • Lawn chair or something similar if you plan to sit. 

  • Please sit with your household and distance from others.

Wednesday, June 2 at 6:30 pm near the bus loop. (Rain date is Thursday, June 3) This informance will be approximately 20-30 minutes long.  Students, please arrive by 5:30 5:00 pm to rehearse.

 Band will start the week of September  14!

WCS BAND NEWS

To start the year, the WCS band program will welcome all returning band students and students new to our school that have experience playing in band. Students will be offered 3 choices which are described below. 

We are gathering information in order to inform our scheduling. 

Please try to indicate your preference  by filling out this form by Wednesday, 9/2.


Please reach out to Kim Thompson with questions. Welcome back! 


Option  1 

In person 

Outdoor small group 

ensemble experience

Option 2 

In person

Indoor small group percussion ensemble experience

Option 3 

Off site

Remote lessons

    Choose this if your main goal is to make music with a group.

     This is available to all returning band students including percussionists. 


Edit: new options will be available when it is too cold to be out! 

    Choose this if your main goal is to focus on percussion music. 

     This is available to all returning band students  including non-percussionists who  feel more comfortable making music in a percussion setting this year. (You may choose to focus on melodic percussion  or drums) 

     Choose this if your main goal is to focus on your individual skills as a musician. 

     This is available to all returning band students, including those working in the CVSD Virtual Academy. 

     This is a great way to stay connected to friends who are not on your team or school day group! 

  • Available to all returning band members, including students new to our school who have experience on their instrument

  • Organized by cohort or team

  • Meets outside during recess once per week

  • If performances are possible, they will be virtual. 

  • Safety protocols will be communicated before sessions begin. 


  • Available to any returning band student, including students new to our school who have experience on their instrument and regardless of which band instrument they played in the past (in other words, any returning band member may switch to percussion temporarily) 

  • Organized by cohort or team

  • Meets in the band room masked and safely distanced, once per week during recess 

  • All students will need to use  their own sticks or mallets  but will share drums.

  • If performances are possible, they will be virtual.

  • Safety protocols will be communicated before sessions begin.

  • Available to any  returning band member, including students new to our school who have experience on their instrument

  • Weekly or biweekly synchronous lessons via Google Meet 

  • Lessons may be 1:1 or with a small agreed upon friend group 

  • Protocols will be established to use this time efficiently. 

  • Mrs. Thompson will be available outside of these lessons to offer feedback and help.
